Manuela Farinosi, PD in Multimedia Communication, is associate professor in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics at the University of Udine, Italy. As a sociologist of communication and culture, her research focuses on grassroots communication practices and their relationship with digital media and social platforms, and examines how the changing conditions of mediation are reshaping everyday life and possibilities for action, both in ordinary and extra-ordinary times. Her main interests include mediated participation; digital activism; digital media use in disaster contexts; online privacy and surveillance; digital research methods. She has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, edited books and conference proceedings. Her work has been published in leading Media and Communications journals, such as International Journal of Communication, Journal of Communication Inquiry, Journalism, and Global Media and Communication. She has been visiting scholar at a number of Universities, including Jyväskylä University (September 2015), Alberta University (June 2009), Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix, Namur (May 2009), and Ljubljana University (Spring 2007). She has taught a range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the field of media and communications and currently teaches courses in the Sociology of communication, Theories and techniques of digital media, and Digital media for tourism.
